red and cream Christchurch bus outside the old cathedral, early 1960s

The main parade in Napier on Saturday happened to coincide with the 3rd anniversary commemorations of the Christchurch earthquake of 22 February 2011. This postcard view is apt as everything here is now history.  Traditionalists wanted the cathedral rebuilt but the Anglican church has opted for a much cheaper modern design, which seems fitting to us if most of the rest of Christchurch is going to be the newest city on the globe, the status Napier had in the mid-1930s.  For more on Christchurch buses, see earlier posts.
