a Standard and a DE at Kaiwharawhara, Wellington, 1966

As a Standard railcar makes its way to New Plymouth on the NIMT, a DE diesel-electric hauls a goods train on the Hutt Valley line. The foothills motorway is still being constucted and the first stage won't be open until 1969. One notes the LSZ which stood for "Limited Speed Zone" on the Hutt Road; this meant in theory that the speed limit varied according to the conditions, although in practice it simply meant the then open road speed limit of 55 mph or 89 km/h.
